The MPhA Methadone program involves attending and participating in a full day, live workshop
outlining the use of methadone for opioid dependence. Didactic lectures will be presented,
personal stories will be shared, and case studies will be examined. Prior to attending the program,
participants must read the MPhA Methadone Guidelines Principles for the Provision of Methadone
by Manitoba Pharmacists and watch (or have previously attended) the University of Manitoba, Office
of Continuing Professional Development DVD – Methadone – An Introduction to Clinical Practice.
It is strongly recommended that at least one pharmacist in each pharmacy that dispenses methadone
to have taken either the MPhA methadone professional development program or one of the other
methadone maintenance treatment courses available in Canada. This program also serves as an
introduction to pharmacists with little to no experience dispensing methadone.

Topic 1: Drug Safety & Effectiveness Network

The Drug Safety and Effectiveness Network (DSEN) was established in 2011 to conduct and coordinate research on the "real world" safety and effectiveness of drugs on the Canadian market.
